BRADY-HIGGINS FAMILY REUNION 2007
BUSINESS MEETING


The 2007 Reunion Business Meeting was held at 9a.m. at the
Veranda Hotel at Grand Tunica Resorts in Tunica,
Mississippi. Angeline Harmon called the meeting to order.
Rev. Andre Kellum led prayer.

Old Business:
?   Scholarship Guidelines: Committee chair Yolanda
Smitherman announced that new scholarship guidelines had
been voted on by the committee and would be sent out in
August.
?   Rehope Cemetery Preservation: Richard Bishop volunteered
to build a rock monument on “Murr’s” gravesite. The actual
location of the site needs to be found and approval of the
church pastor and members must be made. An exploratory
committee was motioned and is as follows: Richard Bishop,
Mack Lett, Dreyfus Brady and Ellen (Lucretia) Wilborn.

It was also discussed that a donation from future reunions
be sent back to Rehope Baptist Church, Roanoke, AL for the
upkeep of the cemetery. Money will come from the family
general fund.
?   Family Website: A vote was taken to reimburse Andre
Kellum for maintenance of the family website and
registration of the domain name,
www.brady-higginsfamily.com. To date, the total is $397.95
maintenance fee ($18.95/month) plus $9.95/year domain name
registration. Monies will be taken from the general fund.
Andre will receive reimbursements every six months.

Andre requested that the family provide him with updated
emails to ensure everyone gets the family information. In
order to post messages, correct family emails are needed.

New Business:
?   Registered participants this year: 93 adults, 6 teens,
and 15 children (114 total).
?   Andre, site administrator, requested that he have a
back-up administrator. Names suggested: Lawrence Hurley
(husband of Belinda “Bickey” Hurley, Oliver Woods, Rebecca
Higgins Woods, Emory Higgins), Sherrilyn Magby (Shelly
Magby, Leila Higgins Magby, Emory Higgins), and George
“Chip” Smitherman (Ivee Smitherman, Rebecca Higgins Woods,
Emory Higgins).
?   Yolanda announced the 2006 Scholarship recipients:
Lawrence Locke, Jr. and Desiree Washington were awarded
$750 each.

Information packets will be mailed out to upcoming seniors
in the fall.

Pay pal is set up to receive scholarship donations through
the family website.

Yolanda Smitherman and Monica Ferguson asked to be removed
from the committee in keeping with the guidelines that two
members be replaced every two years. Peggy Selma replaced
Monica Ferguson. There were no other volunteers and
Yolanda Smitherman will remain chair.

As of March 2006, the scholarship fund balance is $3343
(reported by Mary Lett).
?   Jerome Higgins asked to be replaced as treasurer and Mary
Lett asked to be replaced as scholarship
secretary/treasurer. Monica Ferguson (Ivee Smitherman,
Rebecca Higgins Woods, Emory Higgins) volunteered to
replace both. Sherrilyn Magby will serve as Finance
Secretary.
?   General fund balance: $2128.60 (reported by Mary Lett).
?   A committee will research the Brady-Higgins Family become
a federally registered non-profit organization (501(c)3).
Committee members are: Andre Kellum, Monica Ferguson,
Melvin Scales, Angeline Harmon, Mack & Mary Lett.
?   Marilyn Lett-Morgan will update the family mailing/phone
list. 120 pieces of mail was returned undelivered due to
insufficient addresses.
?   Further genealogical research is needed for the family.
Willie Dell Thomas and Marilyn Lett-Morgan have information
that will be passed to Augustine Hoskins (Clinton Magby,
Leila Higgins Magby, Emory Higgins). Additionally, Edward
LaRance Lett will send Augustine a book on how to research
genealogy.
?   Peggy Selma and Selma Woods will research the possibility
of a cruise for the 2011 reunion. If the family decides
against a cruise, the alternate site will be Florida on the
condition that Monica Ferguson AND Sherrilyn Magby are both
still living in the state. The site of the 2013 reunion
will be Alabama.
